As the wind picks up in the city, and I’m storing my white pants away, I’m thinking about France, Fall, Food and Fashion. Why???? On Saturday evening, I will be on a plane to Paris to celebrate a special birthday week with my sister and niece. It so happens to be fashion week in Paris as well. What a sweet coincidence!
So as you know, my thoughts are always on food…What am I going to be eating in Paris this time??? I started getting inspired by two new cookbooks that landed in my home recently. They are both books for Francophiles .
Le French Oven by Hillary Davis is the new staple to my cookbook collection. It showcases authentic, tantalizing French recipes that can be created in the cocotte―the French version of a Dutch oven―in all of its sizes and shapes, from mini to large. Using various techniques such as braising, stewing, roasting, baking, stovetop, and frying, Le French Oven will teach how to create appetizers, soups, main courses, desserts, and more. Hillary Davis is the also the author of French Comfort Food and Cuisine Niçoise. She knows a heck of a lot about FRANCE and French cooking. And I’m happy to say that she has become a new friend of mine as well. How lucky am I! Hillary invited me to a delicious dinner she gave in the Hamptons over the summer. And I fell in love with her warmth and charm.
While flipping through the book I had to share with you one my personal favorites the “Warm Mushroom Custards with Garlic Bread”. Just the title of the recipe makes my mouth water. I am imagining the intoxicating smell of sautéing fresh mushrooms in local butter and garlic. Check out the recipe below.
Immediately after reading the beautifully written foreword by Meryl Streep, I fell in love with Monet’s Palate Cookbook: The Artist & His Kitchen Garden at Giverny, written by film maker Aileen Bordman and garden writer Derek Fell. We are all familiar with Claude Monet and his exquisite and ethereal paintings of Giverny. Aileen Bordman has captured the culture and nature of Giverny and brought it to life. After making a documentary about Monet’s work throughout the years she wrote this charming book inspired by Monet’s kitchen garden. The stunning photographs and farm-to-table recipes with a French influence will make you want to cook!!
Both books make excellent holiday gifts and hostess gifts… just saying…
Before heading off to France, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Fall and a Happy New Year if you’re celebrating. I’m going to be Flirting with lots of Fall Flavors in Paris. Stay tuned to all my upcoming posts and food porn!!
